Your India e-Visa or OCI photo, in one go
Visiting India, or applying for your OCI card? Both forms ask for a square JPEG. Take it at home: we check it and make one file that fits both.

Our lines are estimates. Drag them onto the chin and the top of the head if they are off; the crop follows.

Before you take it
- Someone else takes it, about 1.5 m away, phone at your eye level.
- Light grey or off-white wall, plain, no shadows. The OCI rules say a light colour, not white; the e-Visa accepts either.
- Glasses off. Full face, eyes open, mouth closed.
- Keep your whole head in the photo, from the top of your hair to your chin, with space above it.
What we check and do
- One face, no glasses, head straight and facing the camera, eyes open, neutral expression, plain light background, even lighting.
- Head size: chin to top of head between 70% and 82% of the photo’s height, which covers the OCI’s “80% coverage of face” and the e-Visa’s full head.
- We crop to a square and resize to 600 × 600 pixels, JPEG under 200 KB: inside both forms’ limits.
- We never edit your face or background. The rules forbid it, and edited photos get refused.
What we can't check
- Rimless glasses, glare, small shadows (we only catch a strong shadow on one side), hair covering the eyes: look at the photo yourself.
- Whether the photo is less than 6 months old, and whether it looks like you today.
Our measurements are estimates. Only the Government of India decides whether a photo is accepted: we help you catch problems, we don't guarantee acceptance.
Can I take it at home?
Yes. The e-Visa photo is “to be uploaded mandatorily by the applicant”, and the OCI portal asks for an uploaded JPEG. Neither asks for a professional photographer.
The e-Visa needs a square JPEG of 10 KB to 1 MB with “full head from top of hair to bottom of chin”. The OCI card needs a square of 200 to 900 pixels, at most 200 KB. Our file meets both.
